Caring for carers works best when we do it together

Butterfly Touch Carers exists to help carers feel calmer, more confident and less alone, using gentle touch, tone and simple techniques you can use in real life, not just in a classroom.
We couldn’t do that on our own. Butterfly Touch Carers works alongside organisations who share our belief that carers deserve support too. Here you’ll find help and resources from our friends, to use alongside what you learn with us.

St Columba’s Hospice Care, Edinburgh
We delivered the very first Butterfly Touch Carers course at St Columba’s Hospice Care in Edinburgh, and our course was recorded there.
The carers who came were far more used to giving care than receiving it, and many weren’t sure what to expect. As they talked openly about the realities of caring, including too little time, limited resources and little support, the room began to soften. Then came the practical sessions: gentle hand and arm techniques, soothing foot and head and shoulder techniques, and simple breathing and fingertip stress practices. Shoulders dropped, breathing slowed and faces became calmer.
For that one day, these carers were cared for through touch.
With heartfelt thanks to the carers who took part and shared so openly, and to St Columba’s Hospice Care and Lisa Kerr, Manager and Holistic Therapies Lead, for helping bring this course to life.
